OpenAdapter is an open-source macOS utility for running a local OpenAI-compatible adapter. It helps local clients use either bundled local models or third-party cloud AI providers that you configure.
Developer data collection
OpenAdapter's developer does not collect any data from this app. The app does not include ads, analytics SDKs, telemetry, tracking, or an OpenAdapter-operated cloud relay for your requests.
Local adapter
OpenAdapter runs on your Mac and listens on 127.0.0.1. It is
designed for local clients on your computer and requires a local bearer token.
OpenAdapter does not modify client configuration automatically; it only shows
snippets that you can copy.
Bundled local models
When you use a bundled local model, inference runs locally on your Mac through OpenAdapter's sandboxed local runtime. Your prompts and responses for bundled local models are not sent to OpenAdapter-operated servers.
Third-party cloud providers
If you configure a third-party cloud AI provider, such as Google Cloud / Vertex AI MaaS, OpenAdapter sends the prompts, instructions, tool metadata, and other request data needed for that model from your Mac to the provider you selected. The provider returns the model response to your Mac through OpenAdapter.
Your use of third-party cloud AI services may be subject to your account, API key permissions, provider terms, provider privacy practices, quotas, billing, and other charges. Review those terms before using a cloud provider with OpenAdapter.
Credentials
Cloud provider API keys are stored in your macOS Keychain. OpenAdapter does not display saved API keys after saving them, and does not write them into logs. The local adapter bearer token is also stored in Keychain.
Logs
OpenAdapter's persistent logs are designed to store request metadata only, such as route, model, status, latency, token counts, and sanitized error summaries. Prompt and response bodies are not persisted by default.
Open source and bundled notices
OpenAdapter is provided under an open-source license. Open source and bundled model notices are available in the app under Settings, Open Source Notices.
Apple App Store privacy information
This policy describes OpenAdapter's app behavior. Apple may process information related to App Store downloads, updates, purchases, crash reporting, or platform services under Apple's own terms and privacy policy.
